Join MASS MoCA Museum Educators for a series of free workshops for all ages during the week of school break, April 15–19! Workshops will take place at 11am every day in Kidspace, and each will focus on a different art medium and process. Come be inspired, learn something new, and make a project to take home! The ArtBar will also be open for drop-in art-making throughout the day.

Schedule

Monday, April 15: Poetic Creations with Colin Harrington
This workshop explores the traditional Japanese art practice of Haiga. Participants will learn about simple poetry and how to incorporate drawing and color with the written word to create a cohesive, cross-disciplinary work of art.

Tuesday, April 16: Creative Movement with Claire Hutchinson
Learn how dance can be used to play, convey ideas, and bring joy into your daily life. Through games and choreographic experiments, participants will get moving, choreograph their own dance phrase, and practice translating dance to paper.

Wednesday, April 17: Playful Puppets with Beth Davis
Meet some friendly puppets and make one of your own. In this workshop participants will get to interact with different puppets, explore how they move, and choose a kit to make their own out of upcycled single-use materials.

Thursday, April 18: Theater Games with Nina Keneally
Explore the benefits of performance and movement in everyday life. This workshop will teach participants how to move, use props to convey concepts and feelings, and create a character mask.

Friday, April 19: Drawing LeWitt with Rebecca Cuscaden Marvin
Inspired by Sol LeWitt’s wall drawings, this workshop will introduce participants to the creative process behind these works. We will explore Conceptual art, color theory, lines, geometric shapes, and follow instructions to re-create LeWitt’s wall drawings.
